Erin McGuire

Finding an artist who speaks to your heart is like eating sugar and cinnamon toast.  It’s inspiring; it fills you up; and it’s delicious, all at the same time.

Through another blog, I discovered Erin McGuire whose art evokes a sort of wistfulness–I think that’s the correct word.  Her “Penelope” just arrived in the mail, and it looks just like an original.  You can see samples of her work here.  Be sure to look through her sketchbook, and scroll to “Next” when you get to the end of the line.  Take a look at her blog, too, which you can read here.

Her paintings and sketches of girls are exceptionally done.  They portray more than a moment; they convey an attitude, a certain pose, you might say.  I could fill a room with them.  They make me wonder how little L. might turn out someday.  Having taught high school girls, I recognize the angst, the tenderness, the dreaminess.

Although “Penelope” is sold out, you can always keep tabs on what Erin’s selling through her Etsy store–paperbones.

It’s always fun to recommend a find to someone else, like digging through antique store piles, only to pull out that one thing you have to have–for pennies.  Or walking along in a museum and being stunned by a painting, enough to drag your spouse or friend over to it right then, to share in your joy.

Happy New Year to all of you!
