Fairy Gardens & Circuses
Well. Humph. Who knew that a child could hold more interest than a circus (for us)? Oh, the joy on her face! The surprise! The wide-eyed delight! Obviously, she can’t stop talking about Cirque du Soleil, and Dan and I can’t stop talking about her. It was a hit.
Here she is watering her fairy garden. See the toad on the bench? The snake on the ground underneath the bird bath? The elm tree that’s finally recovering its leaves after the planting? Her fairy ring mushrooms (given to her by her sweet friend Isabelle)? I offered to help little L. with that MASSIVE spray bottle, but no, she wanted to do it “all myself.”
Can I just say, once again, that her sheer happiness warms my heart? She’s gobbling down life and asking for more, please. To remember what she came from…and to see her so acclimated here…well, there are no words for it, really.
Oh sad day, when she loses that spark! Oh sad day, when she loses her self-confidence! Oh sad day, when she listens to her friends who tell her what’s cool and what’s not…and she believes them! My heart will ache when that day comes, as I’m sure our parents’ hearts ached for us.
But now, right now, I’m elated she’s happy. How much she’s changed from when we brought her home!
