Artwork

Dan and I have been emboldened to try our own hand at creative art pieces, after seeing how artists are generally not appreciated during their lifetimes (ha, ha!).  Dan has just finished a fantastic painting in a Van Gogh style red-on-red.  Very interesting.  I’m taking it to the art store today to get it framed.  I will have to ask his permission to post a picture of it, but I’ll wait until it’s completely finished.

This morning, I saw the above project on Design*Sponge.  [Click here if you’d like to get the instructions.]  Isn’t it fabulous?  I’m going to do it for our family.  I’ll probably wait until we get the beagle puppies in March.  [We are waiting so that Liliana can be involved in the choosing.]

This past summer, Dan planned a whole surprise weekend for me, and after doing numerous fun things during the day, we ended up at the Chambers Luxury Art Hotel in Minneapolis.  The word “art” is there for a reason.  Tons of art.  Very hip and cool art.  Some from students; others from up-and-coming artists.  They even had one of those art vending machines, where you buy a token at the main desk for $5, then you insert the token into the machine and choose whose art you want.  There are little labels on the front, displaying the name of the artist and what, exactly, you’d be receiving if you punch their particular button.  The art I chose came on a block about 4” x 2.5” x 1”.  I imagined all sorts of things I could do like this, and it’ll be my next creative project (oh yes, tucked in between all the knitting and felting I want to do…seriously, once you start, you can’t stop!).

This is why there are not enough hours in my day.  Do you feel the same way sometimes?  I keep wondering when the old-age-don’t-need-much-sleep syndrome will kick in.
