Worthy’s Surprise Visit
What a surprise! Dan kept saying he was bringing a gift home on Thursday afternoon. I had no idea.
He actually drove up to the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport to pick up my sister Worthy. They’d been planning this since June, I think. He called me on his way home saying, “Yeah, you know how Liliana goes CRAZY when I come home?” She really does. She jumps up and down and yells an exaggerated, two-syllable “hi-ee, hi-ee, hi-ee!” over and over again. So Dan said, “Could you video tape that? I’m thinking it’s not going to last forever.” So that’s what I was doing, until he walked in and said, “Okay, give me the camera now,” and I was thinking, “Wait. You told me to video you and her,” and then Worthy walks in and squats down by Liliana. I think I said, “What are you doing here?” and then I think I just cried out of sheer happiness.
So, the picture above is Worthy and Liliana sampling homemade Cream of Broccoli Soup. I have to say Liliana was a little confused at first. She kept looking back and forth between us, as though she were wondering if Mama had been strangely replicated. Soon enough, though, she was in her normal hamming-it-up mode.
I asked Worthy if I had portrayed Liliana accurately, both on the blog and to her on the phone, and Worthy said, “No, she’s funnier. You could watch her all day.” It’s true.
And then last night, my dear friends Donna and Sara gave me a beautiful, out-0f-this-world adoption shower (seriously, they could go into business!), and Worthy was there to see it all.
And tomorrow morning, another sister of mine arrives. I think I’m going to burst.
