Remember One Thing
I’ve just finished my last book review (until I get another stack of books), and I’m on to the next thing: Liliana’s birthday this Sunday. This will be her first birthday celebration ever–that we know of–and I’m concocting a few surprises, so she’ll learn what it is to feel like the birthday girl.
We’re celebrating as a family. I’m really looking forward to it.
Now, let’s see how much I can do between now and then. I’m making Skip to My Lou’s birthday crown, although I wish I would have seen the princess hat with tulle before. Oh well. Next year.
Today, I bought the few last notions (thread, bias tape, rick rack, etc.) that I needed to finish her assortment of summer dresses. This afternoon, I cut all the material out. And now, ta-da, guess what I’m doing tomorrow? Yep, you got it.
Given Liliana’s infatuation with bugs (ladybugs, slugs, daddy long legs, spiders), I’m going to attempt Ladybug Cupcakes. Aren’t they a hoot?
All this leads me to this: we all do these sorts of things for our kids, but if you find yourself losing you (in the busyness of creating joy for your little ones), take a look at blogger Amy Smart’s wise words on Design Mom–“The One Thing I Hope You Remember.”
It’s a good thing to be reminded of once in a while–to find what you love and to do it. Nurturing must be modeled.
