Music Introductions
The sheer joy that new music brings!
Liliana said this morning, on the way to school (we were listening to the first song of Vivaldi’s Gloria), “Mom, this makes me so happy!”
I had known about Jonathan Meiburg’s start in Okkervil River, but I hadn’t known about his side project, Shearwater. [Thanks, Kory!] Oh, I love this new “First Listen” of Shearwater’s The Golden Archipelago by NPR, which you can access here until Feb. 23. NPR suggests that you stream the entire thing, just to get a feel for it, and I think they’re right on.
Turn it up. Isn’t it grand…and sweeping?
I’ve just learned about Basia Bulat, too–her warbly, but powerful voice. Her song “Heart of My Own” can be heard here.
Have you heard of Mumford & Sons? [Thanks to Kory for this one, too!] I’ve posted their video for “Winter Winds” below. Perfect for singing along…or blasting in the car…oh, except dancing would be a problem then. Sadness.
On second thought, listen to it when you’re at home and can clap and sway.
My favorite, which is on their new album, Sigh No More, is “Little Lion Man,” which you can view here. [Again, I’m not sure some of you care for certain words in your songs…so I’m respecting that….]
Enjoy on this fantastic February Monday!
