Marble Painting, Hush Little Baby, Apple Peeling, Tea Party, and Makeup Rituals

We finally framed Liliana’s marvelous marble painting.  We placed it in one of those Li’l DaVinci frames, which hinges open at the bottom when you’re ready to slide in the next masterpiece.  The frame itself can hold up to 50 pieces of art!  Such an ingenious design, in my humble opinion.  I need to get several of them–all different sizes–but that will come in time, I suppose.

As you know, if you’ve been keeping up this week, my mom is here, so we’re doing various things this week–to explore and fill our creative banks.  Yesterday, we trekked up to 50th and France in Edina to browse the Anthropologie store (have you ever been?!)…then headed on over to the Edina Galleria–and three of my favorite shops (ATAZ, Three Rooms, and Ampersand).  Lunch was at Good Earth.  Then back home to catch Liliana’s last swimming lesson for the summer.

At ATAZ, Grandma bought Liliana a gorgeous music box.  The tune is Hush, Little Baby, the song I sang and hummed to Liliana when we were visiting her in the orphanage–mainly because it was repetitive and recognizable.  Since then, I’ve sung it to her on a number of occasions, and each time, she either wants to snuggle or dance to it.  Her expressions are priceless.  Here she is, after swimming, clasping her chest in heartfelt emotion, as she listens to the tune.

Tonight, we have movie club, so we worked a little on our menu this morning.  Grandma brought the most amazing gadget with her–an apple corer, slicer, and peeler–so I set Liliana and Grandma to work on our Mile-High Apple Pie (recipe here).  Let me tell you, it’s a cinch with that thing!  Look at that girl go!

Afterwards, a break for a tea party.

A makeup session, of course.

All in all, a good day, don’t you think?

Tonight, Fish Tacos with Sour Cream Sauce and Pico di Gallo.  Mango and Kiwi Salad.  Cornbread Muffins.  Black Beans and Rice.

Mile-High Apple Pie with Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert.

Movie: Gran Torino.

Tomorrow: Grandma leaves.  Sadness.  And we pick up two new beagle puppies.

I’m guessing no sleep tomorrow night…but happiness galore…that Liliana has acquired hand-sized, furry siblings.
