Horrible Argument

From Clifford Williams’ Existential Reasons for Belief in God.

Argument for believing in God:

1. We need _______.  [This list could include, according to Williams: cosmic security, beyond the grave assurances, heaven, goodness, a larger life, to be loved, meaning, to be forgiven, to love, awe, delight in goodness, to be present, justice and fairness.]

2. Faith in God satisfies these needs.

3. Therefore, we are justified in having faith in God.

Did I miss something?

This is like saying, “We need to feel good.  Greasy fast food makes us feel good.  Therefore, we are justified in eating greasy fast food.”

Say what?

Yeah, I’m not knocking the faith…just the reasoning on this one. 🙂
