Can I just say that there are two books right now that we’re really enjoying?  Liliana asks for them over and over.  “Again,” she says as soon as we’ve turned the last page.  Bubble Trouble by Margaret Mahy (illustrated by Polly Dunbar) and Honey, I Love by Eloise Greenfield (illustrated by Jan Spivey Gilchrist).

The words are important in both–as is the way you read them.

Here’s the start of Bubble Trouble:

“Little Mabel blew a bubble, and it caused a lot of trouble…
Such a lot of bubble trouble in a bibble-bobble way.
For it broke away from Mabel as it bobbed across the table,
where it bobbled over Baby, and it wafted him away.”

And from Honey, I Love:

“I love
I love a lot of things,
a whole lot of things
Like…

My cousin comes to visit and you know he’s from the South
’Cause every word he says just kind of slides out of his mouth
I like the way he whistles and I like the way he walks
But honey, let me tell you that I LOVE the way he talks.”

You should hear Liliana try to mimic my “honey!”  Hootie patootie, it’s funny!
