Miniature Fairy Gardens & Fairy Hats

Liliana and I have just mailed a box of acorn caps to my friend Clare and her daughter, Isabelle, to use as fairy hats (or whatever other clever devices they come up with!).  Which has started me thinking about what special projects I should do with Liliana this summer, because as all you Northerners know, we have only several months to imbibe in the green growings all around us.

Do you remember pretending when you were young?  (Not pretending that you were young…that’s hit me recently).  Do you remember being delighted at the thought that perhaps trees could speak or your dolls came to life when you left the room?  There was sheer excitement in it, and still is, for me.

So, I happened to be perusing the ohdeedoh site–a wonderful site full of ideas, by the way–and the wee garden at the top of this page popped up.  You can view it here.

Then I found Two Green Thumbs, a miniature garden center, replete with everything you’ll ever need.  You can view it here.

Oh, and there’s Wee Garden, which offers all manner of tiny things–garden benches, bridges, birdhouses, pots, urns, and rubber boots.  You can view it here.

Look at Enchanted Gardens site here for mailboxes and lightposts and birdbaths and nests.

I’m sure you could go to any thrift store and gather up miscellaneous doll house fixings.  Or you could go on a walk and gather small stones and weeds.  I, for one, love dandelions, even though they are rampantly despised.  Wouldn’t transplanted dandelions look spectacular in a teensy weensy garden?

Look for bark and twigs.  Let your child (either your actual child or the one inside you!) guide you.  Be creative.  There are no right answers.

Unleash the artist in you!
