Pre-Thanksgiving Thoughts

Have you heard of the four books out by Skylight Paths Publishing called, in order, Spring: A Spiritual Biography of the Season, Summer: A Spiritual Biography of the Season, Autumn: A Spiritual Biography of the Season, Winter: A Spiritual Biography of the Season?  They’re wonderful books that include short snippets of poetry or prose or essay by people such as Wendell Berry, Anne Lamott, May Sarton, Henry David Thoreau, Julian of Norwich, in addition to many others.  Reading them is like filling your soul for the day.  Yummy.

As Thanksgiving is tomorrow, I’m reminded of all the things I’m grateful for.  For Liliana being brought into our lives.  For Dan who has been a true partner in this excursion into love for a child.  For friends who have supported us.  For the privilege of saying, each morning with Liliana, “Good morning, sun.”  For the ability to draw breath and to run and to walk.  For the ability to think and to stand in awe of authors who can say it so much better than I.

To all of you, my dear readers, I’m grateful that you return regularly (or sporadically) to check on us.  I’m grateful that you understand my heart, which is to simply be who I am–warts and all–to show that life is a journey of ups and downs, for everyone.  You’re not alone.  Can you imagine anything more special and more amazing than the fact that we’re together in this life business?  And that we can dialogue about it–to try to figure it out?

I can’t.
