Do You See?

Have you heard of Ted Kooser, the poet?  I suppose in today’s realm of poetry, it’s a crime to be “accessible” to the masses, but he is, and I love his down-to-earth, honest words.  [I think it’s more of a crime to capture things in writing that only a handful of people can understand, let alone relate to.]

Here’s a sampling from his Delights & Shadows, which won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for poetry.

“A Glimpse of the Eternal”

Just now
a sparrow lighted
on a pine bough
right outside
my bedroom window
and a puff
of yellow pollen
flew away.

“Starlight”

All night, this soft rain from the distant past.
No wonder I sometimes waken as a child.

Aren’t they lovely pinpricks of delight?
