What I’ve Learned

Sadness.  The day has arrived.  Grandma is leaving.  I’m anticipating that Liliana will fill the car with her tears when we drop Grandma off at the airport.  Another chapter of life will begin.  Isn’t that the way it always works?

We explored, cooked, ate, talked, read, and talked some more.  I’m sure Liliana thought we talked too much.  Which might have been the case, because we’re low on pictures, utterly forgetting to document our time together.

Last night, we ended our time together with Despicable Me–an endearing story of a villain’s change-of-heart.

Needless to say, I have nothing brilliant to say today, other than digging deep and extracting something from my past reading that meant something to me (humorous or otherwise).

So, for your weekend reading, I give you this…

Last Christmas, our friend Herschel gave us Esquire’s The Meaning of Life: Wisdom, Humor, and Damn Good Advice from 64 Extraordinary Lives.  The following tidbits are from a few sections entitled “What I’ve Learned.”  I thought you’d enjoy.

“The grass may always be greener on the other side, but who knows what chemicals that guy is using?”  –Vincent O’Keefe, Avon Lake, Ohio

“Some things are best left un-Googled.”  –Greg Robicheaux, Lafayette, Louisiana

“The best part of the party is where the smokers are.”  –Garrett Phillips, Atlanta, Georgia

“Vonnegut said the existence of music is proof of the existence of God.  Don’t agree?  Go see Springsteen on Saturday night and go to church on Sunday morning, then tell me which event made you feel more alive.”  –Timothy McGann, South Yarmouth, Massachusetts

“If you don’t know about pain and trouble, you’re in sad shape.  They make you appreciate life.”  –Evel Knievel

“Children can age an adult faster than ten years in prison.  Parents can have the same effect on children.”  –David Brown

“People were excited when we landed on the moon.  You go to the moon a couple more times, and they’re not so excited.”  –Buzz Aldrin

“Fame can take interesting men and thrust mediocrity upon them.”  –David Bowie

Happiest of weekends to you!  I’ll be back on Monday morning…
